Pinay teacher in Thailand gets Bagong Bayani Award

MANILA, Philippines -- Analiza Perez-Amurao, a Filipino teacher at Mahidol University International College in Thailand, gets this year’s Bagong Bayani Award for Most Outstanding Employee.


President Benigno Aquino III is scheduled to give her the award on December 1 in Malacanang.

Outstanding overseas Filipino workers get Bagong Bayani awards

The Bagong Bayani Foundation Inc. conferred the “Blas F. Ople Award para sa Natatanging Bayani” on Eduardo Parra Malagapo for “his outstanding achievement in the field of education and his tireless involvement in various socio-civic activities and humanitarian services for fellow Filipinos abroad.”

Analiza Amurao: Teaching without barriers

Analiza Amurao proves that even as a teacher, you can never stop learning – or helping others.


She is a PhD student in Multicultural Studies, and a professor at the Mahidol University International College (MUIC) in Bangkok, Thailand. As one of the most active researchers in the University, she has presented papers in various venues across Asia and Europe.


In 2010, she recevied MUIC’s Achievement Award. She also received Malacanang’s Bagong Bayani Award for Most Outstanding Employee on the same year.

In 2011, she spearheaded a charity concert that gathered volunteers and music artists from Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Japan, and the Philippines. The proceeds went to the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan De Oro and Iligan.

In 2012, she was the recipient of the Overseas Balikbayan Reputation Awards (OBRA) for Outstanding Work Ethics.


She was also included in the Top 5 for the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO)-Australia’s Press Awards, held in the same year.

Three Pinoy teachers make waves abroad

Not all Filipino teachers making waves abroad are in America. Some are in nearby countries, like Analiza Perez-Amurao, a Filipino teacher at the Mahidol University International College (MUIC) in Thailand.


A graduate of the Philippine Normal University in Manila, Perez-Amurao is a celebrated professor at the university  where she has taught for six years now and is a recipient of several awards.
